Arthritis Treatment

Arthritis treatment varies with each type of arthritis. Whatever the type of arthritis to be cured, the goals are the same. These goals include the relief from pain and to remove or reduce inflammation, to reduce the risks encountered during the therapy, to slow down the progression of the disease, to provide the patient with information and educate him about the disease, to prevent him from losing his work and to improve his quality of life despite the disease.

However, although the objectives in arthritis treatment are the same, the treatment may vary depending on the diagnosis and state of the patient. These include a combination of medicines, changes in diet and lifestyle, food, rest, exercise and also weight loss if needed and protection of the joints.

In arthritis treatment, it is important to consider the severity of the disease and also the response of the person suffering to previous medications and therapies administered to him. There is also a possibility of side effects to occur due to the medications given to the patient. Other medicines or drugs being taken by the patient has also to be taken into account during the treatment. Other diseases which the patient may suffer are also to be considered during the therapy. Thus, a change in the therapy or newer therapies may be introduced. The preferences, age and lifestyle of the patient have also to be considered. The correct therapy to be given to a person in his 30′s may not be the right one for a person in his 80′s. Some patients may also prefer natural remedies in the treatment of arthritis.

In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, biologic medications are employed. Biologic treatment targets the cells and areas affected by the disease. This treatment is aimed at the immune system with laser-like precision. An important part of the therapy is physical therapy and occupational therapy to maintain the mobility of the joints and the range of movement of the patient. The amount and kind of this therapy will be dependent on the diagnosis of the disease and also on the individual’s condition. Arthritis treatment should be discussed with a qualified physician.
